WELCOME TO THE ATOMIC DUSK STUDIO
FEATURING ARTIST

John Hernández

MISSION STATEMENT

I am a satirist who delivers cultural commentary through artistically crafted cartoon visuals. My work blends disciplined visual techniques—color, lighting, perspective, and staging—with sharp, idea‑driven critique rooted in observing and visually rendering cultural behavior. I use satire to reveal the habits, contradictions, and patterns people express, hide, and repeat in everyday American life. The medium serves the message: the craft supports the satire, and the satire defines the work. My mission is to build a cohesive canon of illustrated satire that challenges, provokes, and reveals—using modern creative tools as part of a contemporary studio practice without being defined by them.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

John is an illustrator whose work blends surreal imagery with sharp symbolic commentary on modern systems. Raised backstage — “born in a trunk,” as he puts it — he grew up inside the world of performance, absorbing the rhythms of ritual, spectacle, and narrative that now inform his visual storytelling.

His creative path has been broad and industrious, spanning studies in multiple musical traditions, animation, digital media, and narrative structure. After a full military career, Hernández formalized his art training at UNLV, where he deepened his understanding of composition, symbolism, and hybrid digital techniques.

Today, he creates surreal, allegorical tableaus using a workflow that combines generative scaffolding with hand‑painted refinement. His work reflects a lifetime of diverse creative study and a disciplined, resourceful approach to craft — a non‑traditional arc that gives his imagery its distinct voice and conceptual depth.
